Hit the Open Road: Scenic Drives Around Victoria, Texas

Goliad Highway Loop

Starting in Victoria, take the Goliad Highway (TX 183) west. You’ll pass through wide open ranch lands, where livestock graze near the roadside. Be on the lookout for deer, hawks, and other wildlife. This peaceful prairie scenery is best enjoyed in the comfort of a new Chevy Silverado pickup or roomy Chevy Tahoe SUV.  After about 20 miles, you’ll arrive in the historic town center of Goliad, home to lovely Victorian architecture at the Courthouse Square. Grab a bite to eat at one of the local cafes before completing the loop by returning east on US 59.

Riverside Scenic Drive

One of Victoria’s treasures is Riverside Park, with over 562 acres of woodlands, trails and recreation areas to enjoy. While you can walk or bike the park’s paths, we recommend a leisurely drive through the grounds as well. Enter the park from Ben Jordan Street, and continue as the road winds past the playgrounds, athletic fields, Texas Zoo and duck ponds. Pause at one of the pavilions for a picnic lunch with the family. The shade trees and river views are sure to delight. Don’t miss this opportunity to see one of Victoria’s natural escapes.

Old Victoria Driving Tour 

One of the biggest feathers in Victoria’s cap is the incredible wealth of beautiful homes and buildings in the city’s historic districts. The Old Victoria Driving Tour, a self-guided trek through Victoria’s past, features over 80 properties, many of which are listed on the National Register of Historic Places and have been awarded Texas Historic Landmark status. Swing by the Explore Victoria Texas Visitors Center to pick up a brochure guide and ask the friendly staff for their top picks on the tour!
